This blog will charter the Veganuary journey of Simon Jones & Carly Hilts as they try to survive without all those things that seem to make food taste better!…below are our reasons and drivers for this – read on!…

Simon says: Woooo “Veganuary” again – this is my second year of doing this & once again I’ll throw in a month off the booze to boot!…I’m doing this for no other reason than it’s great fun to spend time thinking about what you’re cooking and trying to create vegan variants of dishes without resorting to vegan versions of non vegan ingredients…like vegan cheese, sausages etc…

So it’s a culinary exploration for the month, with a bit of healthiness as a pleasant side effect 🙂

Carly comments: Hello! Carly here, writing on the evening of January 1st, and the end of my first day of Veganuary. If you’d told me this time last year that I’d be starting 2018 teetotal and following a strictly vegan diet, I’d have laughed – I do love my wine and cheese! – but five months ago Si and I got together, and he’s a Veganuary veteran. It was he who sold me the idea, as a great way to try new foods and to expand our cooking repertoire – which all sounded like tremendous fun!

We love cooking together, so the thought of experimenting with new noms definitely appealed – plus it just makes sense for us to be making and eating the same thing. Giving up booze for the month is just an added bonus, mainly to counteract some of the excesses of the Christmas break (both in terms of pennies and units consumed!). I’m looking forward to seeing how we both get on.

So each day we’ll be blogging on what’s being eaten & also if there are any pesky cravings that crop up!…so without further ado…onto Day 1!…
