Day 26: A quiet night in

Hello blog! I’m home alone tonight as Jones is out with friends (at the Ritz, no less!), so I’ve been catching up on my writing and finishing the last of the unpacking. Finally the flat is looking like a home 🙂

This morning started with a lot of water and two slices of bread and butter to combat the after-effects of last night’s jollities – and much remorse, I’m not doing so well at the teetotalism this time round and I have not missed waking up feeling like this! – but fortunately this was also a working from home day so I could crack on with my scribbling without worrying too much about dignity or being sociable or getting out of my PJs before lunchtime.

At 2ish Jones got home, ravenous, so I set out to make another batch of the sauteed veg and toasted nuts that I’d really enjoyed the other day. With Jones helping, though, it quickly evolved to something very different – shredded sprouts and cabbage, yes, and thinly-sliced mushrooms, but we also added peas, sweetcorn, and a good dash of harissa. Served with pasta it was very tasty, though the heat from the harissa was pretty enduring! (that’s the last time I put Jones in charge of adding it 😉 )

Since then, it’s been just me and the TV – so I didn’t feel pressured to be all that creative with dinner. There was still veg to use up, so I had more shredded cabbage and sprouts, this time cooked with red onion and the last of the No Bull meatballs. It was pretty frugal fare, but I enjoyed it – and turns out the No Bull meatballs are much nicer cooked in a pan than cooked in the oven – they stay much juicier and more flavoursome. Just goes to show it’s sometimes worth bearing with a new ingredient even if you don’t like it the first time round.

Today I ate/drank:

  • Tea with almond milk
  • Water
  • Bread and vegan spread
  • Raw mushroom, some bits of artichoke, a sundried tomato
  • Apple tea
  • Small bowl of peas and sweetcorn
  • Pasta with spicy sauteed sprouts and cabbage, mushrooms, sweetcorn, and peas
  • Sauteed cabbage, rosemary sprouts, peas, and red onion with soya and quinoa ‘meatballs’
  • Alpro ‘chocolate’ yoghurt

Today’s cravings:

  • Fried chicken (curse Jones for mentioning it!)
  • Grilled cheese
