Warning! : May Contain Experimental Secrets…

….this message will self destruct in 5, 4, 3…

Day 6 draws to a close – apart from breakfast, it hasn’t been a culinary extravaganza, resorting to a Mediterranean rice & grain mix which was still super tasty, followed by blueberry rice cakes and some dried fruit – but you know what? It was great & just what I fancied…sometime simplicity is the way forward…and absolutely no cravings whatsoever – and I don’t know whether it’s lack of booze or the change in diet, or the near brush with death in the form of this slight cold, but I feel a lot more zen/calm…

Apart from surviving my hair cut & dyeing it back to almost it’s proper colour (I’d grown it super long & dyed it for a part in a musical I had…but off stage and in the cold light of day it made me look like I’d sneakily live in your attic and eat your cat…) it was a quiet day – Carly was off watching a matinee of Hamilton (jealous, I have to wait til Feb 16th for that pleasure! – but apparently it was rubbish……haha, no not really; astounding as expected!) and I just mooched about contemplating my existence and other things…namely why I had to go to 3 barbers to get my haircut?!? The first two had only one person “doing” and initially, after my arrival, one customer (already in the chair) but I sat in both for 30 mins each and they didn’t progress at all – but seemingly just tinkered about with stuff & chatted (noooooooo…) seemingly oblivious to me & the growing numbers of customers who were equally incredulous at the lack of forward motion!…

…but this was the calm before the storm…

Tomorrow is a Double experiment day! (Lab coats donned, safety glasses on & Bunsen flames to blue please…)

Number 1: using Chia seeds to make pancakes!…so I’m trying these as an egg substitute; received wisdom states that 1tbsp of crushed chia seeds (pass the mortar and pestle) and 3tbsp water = 1 egg…full recipe & results to appear in tomorrow’s smouldering experimental crater of a blog…*geiger counter clicking faster*

Number 2: making my own Seitan!…yay what better way to spend the late morning than elbow deep in wholemeal bread dough that’s been soaking in water overnight (rock & roll!)…but the plan is to make/extract/magic up the Seitan, flavour it & then either; use the pasta maker to simultaneously squeeze out the water & air whilst forming into slices of “meat” before poaching, or if that degenerates into an unholy sticky mess, form a large block of it and carve slices off it when it’s cooked to form the centrepiece of the “Grand Vegan Roast Dinner”…I hear they’re writing songs about it already…

Sooooo, hopefully one of those two works…maybe they will, maybe they won’t – but it will be fun trying and seeing what I can do/create….and who or what survives the potential feast or famine day…I have the upper hand on Carly here as I’m sure I saw a raisin drop under the fridge yesterday, so I’m catered for…

Watch this space!

I wonder if the Nobel Institute has a decent canteen?…
