Vegan

…and Lo, on the third day, he created subtle subterfuge…

“Oh hello Day 3, how are you?…I had quite forgotten that you’d be here owing to being quite starving when I woke up”…

I have to echo Carly’s sentiments that hunger seems to be omnipresent at the moment – But necessity is the mother of invention! The rocket wasn’t invented because the moon is a short walk away and so it’s fuelling more of a well considered menu/food approach rather than just “oh that will do” or cooking the usual stuff…again it’s changing relationships with food for the better! Plus it’s actually quite nice, post Christmas, to actually feel hungry, opposed to the constant full feeling owing to the steady stream of food/snacks/booze throughout the day…

And so here we go!…well, the Rye bread was had for breakfast & it was lovely.

Firm yet yielding and full of lovely tasty bits – I’m hoping that this will do as well as the banana for keeping the hunger pangs away until lunch…oh yes and the obligatory bucket of coffee…

Lunch is the leftover curry from last night – and dinner is planned to be (it’s been through a few incarnations) sweet potato, bean & spinach chilli burritos…which promise to be full of flavour and all the tastiness!

I’m definitely on the side of variety being the way to make this even more enjoyable (especially for breakfast which is my fav. meal of the day)- again, I’m not seeing this as an insurmountable challenge rather than a real chance to try, taste and create new things – I love cooking and very rarely resign myself to pre-prepared or overly processed stuff and so this combined with the distracting wild horses of hunger, mean that already each meal has about 10 different forms or possibilities!

In a new feature for this blog I’d like to introduce “Vegan-Ninja” where I substitute vegan foods in place of ordinary food (I wrote “normal” instead of “ordinary” but then reasoned “what makes non-vegan stuff “normal”?? But that’s for another sleepless night and 3am blog post!)…anyway…

VeganNinja101™️: My flatmate (inflexible, self absorbed creature of habit) who casts a downer on our Veganuary escapades and declares it “nonsense”, asked me to pick up some “butter” last night from the supermarket…so instead of butter, or the usual Flora spread…I got this…

…and didn’t say a word…expecting some sort of explosion of annoyance – but no! He has been happily eating his way though it! I think it’s because he hasn’t actually read the label, but it must be good stuff 😉 – I’ll try some over the next few days as I wanted to taste the rye bread in all it’s unadorned glory this morning!

In all the vegan haze, I’d even forgotten its payday today – maybe it’s time to splash out and invest some of those yeast flakes which seem to be a suitable “cheese” hit before Carly goes postal in the cheese aisle of the supermarket and holds some pensioners hostage with a wedge of Parmesan…
